A profound meditation on, to my mind, the autistic experience. I can see why Gaining Ground is seen as feminist literature, and it is that. A woman rejecting stereotyped, gendered roles. But every page oozes with the overwhelm of responsibility, of sensory overload, of needing space to breathe and think. I cannot remember a more visceral and accurate portrayal of the inner autistic world - a highly validating read.
