Excellent academic overview of the role of evangelical Christians and the US/Israeli relationship. There's more to this than the theory that all evangelical Christians want Israel to fulfill its role in the prophecy, and this is a good introduction to the topic. As a side effect I learned a fair bit about the dynamics between various evangelical organizations.

Still propulsive and gripping after all these years. Fun to read it after moving to the Twin Cities; I’ll have to avoid letting Sanford’s gleeful tour of the seamier side of the city affect my vision too much.

Fascinatingly huge in scope: so big the characters wind up getting lost, and that’s true even before we start meeting aliens and humans from the future. I loved the ideas, regardless. I was sadly amused by Lanier’s magical dick. Campbellian hard SF for both good and ill.

Lovely novel about the North Shore of Minnesota, owning a movie theater, and heartache. I liked it for all of the above.
