This book has two voices, and they're not talking to each other

Kadlec's memoir is one that I'm glad I read, though not one I felt like I needed to read, after I finished it. Maybe it's because I share some of the same experiences, but it felt like there wasn't a lot of new ground being broken.

The first half of the book reads very academically, as she lays out context for her experience. The second half feels more stream of consciousness. Neither format is offputting, but the sudden switch is a bit jarring.

Overall, I'd have given it 3.5 stars if possible.
